SUBMENTAL LIPOSUCTION
INDICATIONS: Patients who present with fullness under their neck with very little loose skin. Some people refer to this as a waddle. If there is significant loose skin, a neck lift may be the more appropriate surgery.
SURGERY: The surgery takes about 45 minutes. It can be performed with a local anesthetic or with sedation. A very small incision is made under the chin in the skin crease. Tumescent solution is gently infused into the target area. Liposuction is then performed with a very small cannula. Once the fat is removed, several small sutures are used to close the incision. A bandaid and chin compression garment are applied.
POST OPERATIVE: The patients experiences minimal discomfort. There is minimal bruising. Patients have to wear some submental compression for several days as much as possible, and then when they get home, at nite, for several weeks. Results are impressive.
